Manchester United and Tottenham meet at Old Trafford on Saturday night in a match that could have huge consequences in the top-four competition. Elsewhere, Liverpool travel to Brighton to narrow the gap between top-flight Manchester City to just three points, as the Citizens will not be in action until Monday night when they visit Crystal Palace. eds’ Jurgen Klopp travels south to Brighton in search of a seventh straight Premier League victory – although the East Sussex kit has proved to be a stubborn opponent recently. After losing their first six matches against Liverpool in the top division, the Seagulls are now unbeaten in three matches (one win, two draws), most recently with a magnificent 2-2 draw at Anfield in October. However, the recent form is much less encouraging. Graham Potter’s men are on track with four consecutive Premier League defeats and have won just one of nine in all competitions. Top scorer Mohamed Salah has drawn against both West Ham and Inter Milan last week, but he will look forward to facing a team he has scored 10 straight goals against (five goals, five assists) in just nine matches in his career.

Brentford and Burnley meet in the true definition of six points in West London. The Bees broke through when they won a 3-1 victory over Norwich last weekend, after taking just one point out of a possible 24 in advance – a victory here opens a nine-point gap between them and the visitors. Despite a unilateral defeat against Leicester and Chelsea in their last two games, Sean Dyche’s Clarets are far from being judged and won the reverse meeting at Turf Moor 3-1 in October. Dyche will be hoping for temporary magic from winger Dwight McNeil. No player in the English Premier League has had more shots without scoring this season (32), but this weekend is a year since his last top goal against Everton. After being humble in the face of Manchester City’s bitter rivals last weekend, Manchester United will have to refocus on a crucial top-four clash with Tottenham. The Red Devils can take heart after winning their last two games against Spurs, but Antonio Conte’s visitors go to Old Trafford full of confidence after beating Everton 5-0 last Monday. Before that, the North Londoners beat Leeds 4-0, which means that they intend to score four league goals in three games in a row for the first time since 2004. Harry Kane has made five attacks in his last four league games and has scored 176 goals in the English Premier League in his career. His next one will move him as well as Frank Lampard to fifth place on the list of all-time top scorers. Despite continued uncertainty off the field,

Chelsea will hope to continue their good run at him when they take on the red-hot Newcastle. A 3-1 win over Norwich on Thursday saw Thomas Tuchel’s side win four league games in a row and their recent record against the Magpies gives good results, winning nine of the last 11 matches including the last three. But Eddie Howe’s side have been unbeaten in the Premier League since Christmas and their midweek win over Southampton marked a remarkable sixth in seven games. Historically, Toon has won at Stamford Bridge with just one win in his last 27 league visits  although Howe has won an impressive three of his five trips there as manager.

The sinking Everton are three points short of European disappointment for Wolves visitors at Goodison Park. Frank Lampard could not hide his worries after Toffees lost 5-0 to Tottenham last Monday, leaving them a lone point above the bottom three at the weekend. They will hope that their strong home game over the West Midlands kit – only to lose one of the last 11 headers in Merseyside – can reappear, although recent results suggest they are against it. Wolves striker Raul Jimenez found the net in a 4-0 loss to Watford on Thursday and holds a 100% record against Everton, scoring in all five games of his career against the Blues. Jesse Marsch will hope to be lucky for the third time against bottom side Norwich after starting Leeds’ defeat with a defeat. The Yorkshire club have now lost six in a row and are stuck in the relegation zone, making a repeat of October’s 2-1 win over Canary at Carrow Road important.

Norwich were refreshed in the defeat against Chelsea on Thursday but are struggling to score away from home and have scored just seven times in 13 appearances this season. One man who could play a key role is the home striker Patrick Bamford, who is in his first game since September after an injury problem. He has played seven direct goals for the Whites in just five games against top-flight teams (four goals, three assists). Watford need to put an end to a miserable recent record against Southampton if they are to give a timely boost to their living standards at St Mary’s. The Saints are unbeaten in six Premier League games against the Hornets, won the last three and also have an excellent contribution against teams that have grown with only three losses from their last 39 matches. Guest manager Roy Hodgson’s clash with Southampton has also been difficult, with the former England manager winning just three of 11 matches against them – only against Tottenham does he have worse results. As if the omens were not bad enough for Watford, a loss here would mean that the team is only the fourth team to lose eight games in a row in the Premier League on Sunday.
