Mamelodi Sundowns went into the game as heavy favourites against First Division side Mpumalanga Black Aces, but were made to fight hard for the win. Black Aces had not conceded a goal en route to the Final and it would take an excellent late effort from Lerato Chabangu to finally breach their line. The Giant Killers went close to scoring twice in the first half; Edelbert Dinha forced goalkeeper Brian Baloyi into a fine save, before Kabamba Musasa headed over from close range from the resultant corner. Sundowns improved in the second period – veteran Zimbabwean international Peter Ndlovu forced a good save from AmaZayoni keeper Michael Babale and Surprise Moriri also went close with a shot from the edge of the area. Sundowns did finally break through with three remaining, and it was a goal of the highest quality. Chabangu unleashed a stunning volley that crashed into the back of the net to seal the win for the Tshwane side; just the third time in their history that they have lifted the trophy.
