The performance that was needed, the reaction that was expected. Against a Juventus side in third place, the Primavera picked up a big result following a difficult period, producing an authoritative and convincing display. 3-1 was the final score, with Nasti bagging a brace and Capone scoring with a brilliant right-footed curling strike. Against one of the toughest sides in the league, the Rossoneri came away with their second win of the season after having previously only got the better of Lecce. They’ve now moved on to eight points, meaning they’ve temporarily distanced themselves from the relegation zone. The setback in Verona was too big not to respond: following the two-week international break, the team showed the best of themselves and played their best match of the season so far. This is the path to go down in terms of the quality of play and team spirit. And it’s the point from which the Rossoneri need to depart.
The positive signs were there as AC Milan dominated proceedings early on: Capone had a chance in the third minute and then, with eight minutes on the clock, Nasti scored the opener. Alesi picked out Marco, who controlled the ball and fired home with his left foot via the underside of the bar. The Diavolo continued to pile on the pressure, with Nasti having two further opportunities after 12 and 16 minutes. Both finished narrowly off target. The Rossoneri were pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch, with this being the formula that was causing Juventus all sorts of problems in the opening half an hour. As is often the case, however, the away side equalised with their first real chance. In the 34th minute, Chibozo played in a ball for Cerri, who beat Jungdal with a left-footed shot to level matters out of nowhere.
The second half kicked off and Nasti, having just picked up a booking, netted his and AC Milan’s second. Tolomello broke through the middle and played a through ball for Marco, who left Citi chasing shadows and managed to find the net despite Senko getting a touch to it. 2-1 to AC Milan in the 55th minute. The Rossoneri then came close to adding a third on the hour mark, when El Hilali’s attempt from twelve yards grazed the post. There was a scare when Obaretin misjudged a ball and allowed an opening for Turco, but the same Rossoneri player got back to close the Juventus man down before he could shoot. The Bianconeri were pushing forward, but the next opportunity fell AC Milan’s way, with Di Gesù hitting the ball on the bounce and calling Senko into action in the 74th minute. A minute later, Capone produced a masterpiece: a clever feint was followed by a precise right-footed curler into the top corner to make it 3-1. The Rossoneri saw out the match comfortably and came away with an excellent victory.
