C’était un choc attendu entre deux colosses historiques de la Ligue des champions, il aura tenu toutes ses promesses. Avec treize C1 cumulées dans leurs palmarès, Liverpool et l'AC Milan ont livré une intense bataille, conclue sur une victoire des Reds à Anfield Road (3-2). Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah et Jordan Henderson ont trouvé la faille contre une équipe lombarde bien regroupée mais trop timide pour espérer ramener autre chose qu’une défaite des bords de la Mersey. Vainqueurs logiques, les hommes de Jürgen Klopp ont pris directement la tête de ce groupe B.Dans toute l’histoire de la C1, Milan et Liverpool n’avaient croisé le fer que deux fois : c’était lors de deux finales, en 2005 et 2007, pour une victoire de chaque côté. Dès lors, cette première confrontation en phase de poule laissait songeur sur l’intensité de la partie. Mais dans les faits, ce match a été un régal pour les yeux dès les premières minutes.

Divock Origi was a surprise starter and looked rusty, scuffing an Andrew Robertson cross wide in the opening minutes, with the hosts getting off to an extremely aggressive start.

Liverpool U19s began their 2021-22 UEFA Youth League campaign with a 1-0 victory over AC Milan on Wednesday afternoon. Max Woltman's clinical finish early in the first half was the difference in an entertaining encounter at the Kirkby Academy.  Harvey Davies made sure of the three points with a terrific performance in the young Reds' goal and they'll now look to build on the win when they travel to FC Porto later this month in Group B.
