St James’ Park
It is always difficult to say goodbye to a legend, both for the player and for the fans. Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer left a lasting impact on Tyneside with his abilities, and his testimonial match in 2006 was a truly remarkable send-off for someone who meant so much to so many. A Thursday evening in May brought together a special Newcastle XI and Scottish side Celtic to honour Shearer, and it was an event that no Toon fan wanted to miss. With 52,275 people filling the grounds, St. James’ Park was buzzing with energy (including from the travelling Celtic support).Perhaps the most unique aspect of the fixture was found with the star of the show, as a knee injury prevented him from being able to fully take part in the action....
