Brian White scored twice and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the rival Portland Timbers 4-1 on Saturday night in a Cascadia Cup rivalry match.Sebastian Berhalter and Tristan Blackmon also scored for Vancouver, which has won all three of its matches to open the Major League Soccer season. Eighteen-year-old Eric Izoita, called up from Timbers II earlier in the day, scored in his debut for Portland.
The rivalry between the 'Caps and the Timbers stretches all the way back to 1975, which was Portland's expansion year in NASL, and a year after Vancouver entered the league. Saturday's match will mark the 111th meeting between the two sides in official competition, as well as the 43rd meeting in MLS action, including playoffs.
