Jesper Sorensen doesn't believe a single loss will redefine the Vancouver Whitecaps. Falling 3-0 to the Seattle Sounders on Thursday does, however, make it difficult for the Major League Soccer team to pursue its goal of getting back to the CONCACAF Champions Cup final. Paul Arriola provided a pair of goals and Paul Rothrock came off the bench to round out the scoring as the Sounders took a 3-0 lead in the two-game aggregate round-of-16 series. It was an uncharacteristically sloppy game for the Whitecaps, who controlled 64.5 per cent of possession, but looked out of sync, missing passes and committing multiple defensive lapses. “I think we made a lot of turnovers and we didn't get the flow in the game, and we had to run back. And also, Seattle did a good job breaking and playing through us in a couple of situations in the first half," said Sorensen, Vancouver's head coach. "We made some big mistakes that put us in a very difficult situation.”
