Luton's League One play-off push suffered a setback when they fell to defeat at struggling Reading. Despite fighting back from two goals down to level at 2-2 late on, Reading substitute Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan snatched a 78th-minute winner to end the Hatters' four-match unbeaten league run. Jack Wilshere's side started the stronger, with Cohen Bramall driving wide after finding space, but Reading soon found themselves ahead. Hatters goalkeeper Josh Keeley clumsily felled Daniel Kyerewaa following a swift home break and Lewis Wing coolly converted from the spot for his sixth goal of the season in the eighth minute. Town could have equalised shortly afterwards but Reading goalkeeper Joel Pereira made a superb save to turn over an inswinging Kal Naismith corner that had flicked goalwards off Wing's thigh. The Royals struck again in the 52nd minute when patient build-up play ended with Randell Williams setting up Jack Marriott to sweetly drill home from the edge of the area against his former club. Luton pulled a goal back seven minutes later when Wing made a hash of clearing a Shayden Morris cross and Jordan Clark poked in the loose ball. Full-back Nigel Lonwijk then crashed home a glorious equaliser from distance in the 76th minute, only for Ehibhatiomhan to guide the winner past Keeley from a tight angle just two minutes later.
Merci pour ce match de League One. La cible favorite des caméras et l'un des sujets de conversation régulier des commentateurs était Jack Wilshere, l'ancien milieu d'Arsenal et actuel entraîneur de Luton. Pour ce qui est du match, on a vu une équipe de Luton très portée sur la construction du jeu, balle au pied (65% de possession de balle) contre une équipe locale qui fonctionnait davantage avec des rushes, des longues touches, des balles mi-longues ou des longues balles par le dégagement du gardien et donc davantage de spontanéité de leur part. Reading, grâce à cette victoire, s'éloigne un peu de la zone rouge et devrait échapper à la relégation avec ce qui a été montré, tandis que Luton aura des chances de jouer les play-offs pour la montée en fin de saison s'ils font un peu moins tourner la balle et sont davantage incisifs, à mon humble avis.
