Manchester United exited the Carabao Cup at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town on Wednesday night after losing 12-11 on penalties. Entering the competition at the second round stage for the first time since 2014, United fought back from 2-0 down in the final 15 minutes of the game via goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire. The Reds found themselves 2-0 down at the break following goals from Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren. They were second best and could have found themselves even further behind. However, Maguire's 89th-minute header sent the game to penalties, giving United the chance to save themselves from embarrassment. However, a never-ending penalty shootout finally came to an end when Mbeumo fired his second effort of the shootout against the crossbar, sparking wild scenes in the stands and on the pitch. United remain winless this season, meaning pressure is already piling on head coach Ruben Amorim. The Reds face Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday.
