A first-half penalty from Erison and an injury-time strike by fellow Brazilian Marcinho gave Kawasaki Frontale a 2-0 win at home to Australia's Central Coast Mariners in the Asian Champions League Elite preliminary stage on Tuesday. Kawasaki came into the clash at Todoroki Stadium near Tokyo on 15 points and were already assured of a place in the last 16, along with fellow J-League sides Yokohama F Marinos and Vissel Kobe. The Mariners, meanwhile, were anchored to the bottom of the 12-team East table, having earned just a solitary point from their seven previous league-stage matches. Shigetoshi Hasebe's men earned the spot kick after Hinata Yamauchi was brought down just inside the area by Central Coast winger Christian Theoharous late in the first half. Erison made no mistake as he blasted his penalty past keeper Adam Pavlesic into the top right corner. Substitute Marcinho doubled the margin with virtually the last kick of the game when he chipped Pavlesic on a counterattack in the eighth additional minute.
