Liverpool moved up to sixth when beating fifth-placed Brighton 2-1 in the Barclays Women’s Super League after on Friday evening. Brighton goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley got away with misjudging an early cross, her opposite number Tegan Micah also escaped a scary moment playing the ball close to her own goal-line before Grace Fisk came to the rescue. Liverpool took the lead on the half-hour from a counter attack, Fuka Nagano’s ball collected by Olivia Smith who fought off a challenge from Guro Bergsvand to fire into the far top corner. Mia Enderby and Leanne Kiernan almost combined to double Liverpool’s lead moments after both came off the bench, but seconds later Kiko Seike broke for Brighton and found Nikita Parris whose deflected effort bounced into the far corner of the net. Liverpool regained the lead in the last 10 minutes, Enderby’s effort blocked and Fisk’s shot going in off Brighton’s Jorelyn Carabali for the Reds first home win of the campaign.
