Stellenbosch FC made history after booking a place in the CAF Confederation Cup last eight following a convincing win over Stade Malien on Sunday. They beat Stade Malien 2-0 in a match that was played at the Loftus Versfield Stadium. The win means they will receive US$550,000 [R10.5 million] from CAF for their progression. Two successive wins over Angola’s CD Lunda Sul put Steve Barker and his men in top contention for a quarterfinal place. And they were so determined, starting with Devin Titus who almost struck first after 15 minutes. They broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, through Fawaaz Basadien who scored from a penalty. Nine minutes later, they extended their lead through Jayden Adams who rose high to nod home from a corner that was curled in by Basadien. And they went to the break leading, much to the excitement of Barker who smiled to the dressing room. In addition, that was all they needed to win and write a new piece of club history.Furthermore, Stellies came into this one sitting in second position in Group B of the competition. They now have nine points on their tally after five matches.
