Victory started the game brightly, as they chased a third consecutive win in the A-League Men’s competition. An unchanged line-up had been named by Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo, with the team putting their visitors under plenty of early pressure. Ryan Teague’s free-kick flew just wide of the post, whilst Nikos Vergos’ appeals for an early penalty were ultimately dismissed by the referee. Brisbane though were hardly bystanders in the first 45, creating a number of decent chances of their own, most regularly with crosses into the penalty area. As the game approached half-time, both sides were crying out for a moment of magic to break the deadlock. A week after scoring a screamer to beat Macarthur, Piscopo went on a superb run into the box, skipping past a number of opponents before teeing-up Nishan Velupillay in the middle of the penalty area.

Velupillay made no mistake with the finish, giving Victory the lead they would carry into half-time. Chances were harder to come by in the second half, with Kisnorbo turning to his bench in search of more creativity just after the hour mark. Daniel Arzani came into the game and made an immediate impact with his flair in the front third, but the second goal remained elusive for Victory. The hosts though would eventually find the second goal craved, although it came from an unlikely source. Teague’s corner picked out the head of Jason Geria, who thumped home the chance to double Victory’s lead. The fourth A-League goal of Geria’s long career, which would wrap up the three points on the day. 2-0 the full-time score, as Victory moved to the top of the A-League Men’s ladder.
