Sydney FC huffed and puffed, and eventually blew away Central Coast Mariners 2-0 in a dominant Isuzu UTE A-League performance. For 73 minutes, Sydney were frustrated by defending champions and Premiership-chasing Central Coast but Anthony Caceres broke their stubborn resistance at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night. Caceres’ well-taken volley put the Sky Blues ahead before Socceroos full-back Joel King scored his first Sydney goal three minutes later in the 77th minute as the home side made it five wins in six matches against Central Coast. With the win, fifth-placed Sydney cemented their spot in the top six and moved within six points of the second-placed Mariners and a point behind Macarthur FC and Melbourne Victory through 22 games. For the Mariners, who had lost one of their past 23 matches in all competitions, tasted defeat for the first time since going down to the Sky Blues in February as they missed the chance to move level on points with leaders Wellington Phoenix.
