It was five years ago today, on May 27, 2017 that, as with the Scottish Cup final in its 92nd and last minute, a flash of lightning lit the Hampden sky and greeted a Tom Rogic goal not just any Tom Rogic goal, this was a goal that not only delivered the Scottish Cup, it not only clinched the club’s fourth Treble, it was the goal that made Celtic Invincible. This was the 107th goal of an astounding 47-game unbeaten domestic season and little did we know at the time, it would also seal the first of an amazing Quadruple Treble. Neither Brendan Rodgers nor the players or supporters could’ve asked for a better first season in charge for the Irishman.
Going the entire domestic season unbeaten to record a historic Invincible Treble for the first time in Scottish football paved the way for even more history-making achievements over the coming seasons with the Double Treble, the Treble Treble and, of course, the unprecedented Quadruple Treble – 12 consecutive trophy wins in four years! The new man’s first trophy of his managerial career was Celtic’s 100th top-class trophy as the League Cup was delivered with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Aberdeen Celtic’s sixth title in a row followed in early April as a 5-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle sealed the Premiership title. That left the Scottish Cup and, despite going 1-0 down to Aberdeen, the Celts won 2-1 thanks to that last-gasp goal from Tom Rogic and the Invincible Treble was a reality after months of promise. It was a season of remarkable memories not least beating Rangers 5-1 at both Celtic Park and Ibrox.
