Trinidad and Tobago went under 4-1 to Jamaica in their second match of the Gold Cup on Wednesday night at CitiPark, St Louis. After a 3-0 against St Kitts and Nevis, T&T would have qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament with victory over Jamaica. However, the two-time Gold Cup finalists went ahead 3-0 within the first half-hour of the game with Demari Gray getting a double. Gray put the Reggae Boys ahead in the 14th minute before Leon Bailey made the scoreline 2-0 in the 18th minute. Gray, who plays for Everton in the Premier League, then doubled his personal tally in the 30th minute.
Trailing 3-0 at half-time, Trinidad and Tobago head coach Angus Eve made changes going into the second half. Joevin Jones replaced Aubrey David, Triston Hodge was substituted for Malcolm Shaw, and Kaile Auvray came on for Ajani Fortune. Within four minutes, Andre Rampersad scored for Trinidad and Tobago to reduce the deficit to 3-1. However, T&T failed to add to the scoreline with Dujuan Richards adding a fourth goal for Jamaica in time added on for stoppages. Trinidad and Tobago will face the USA in their final preliminary match on 2 July at Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte.
