Portugal produced a rampant performance to earn a morale-boosting 5-0 win over New Zealand ahead of the Play-off Tournament match that will determine their FIFA Women’s World Cup  fate.
Ana Capeta bagged a second-half brace as the Football Ferns were ruthlessly put to the sword at Hamilton’s Waikato Stadium. This potent Portugal side caused problems from the first whistle and it was no surprise when their star forward opened the scoring on 17 minutes. Lucia Alves provided the assist with a superb drilled cross and, while Jessica Silva didn’t quite apply the touch she intended – making contact with her shoulder rather than her head – it was enough to divert the ball past the helpless Erin Nayler.
