The Ekasi Champ of Champs Tournament pits Gauteng’s finest kasi teams against each other from 16 June till 4 July 2022, in Soweto. The eight teams were drawn in two groups at a popular hang out spot in Soweto (Konka) last Wednesday night. The first round will take place at the Kwa Mahlobo grounds in Meadowlands. The matches will then move on to Moletsane Sports Grounds, and the final will played at the Dobsonville Football Stadium. The games should bring about lots of excitement, with an expected crowd of about 5 000 people daily.


Beke le Beke FC became the first team to qualify for the DStv eKasi Champ of Champs semifinals, outclassing Free Agents FC in their second group A match played at the KwaMahlobo Sports Grounds in Soweto. resh from their 2-1 victory over Chego 17 on the opening day of the competition on Youth Day, Beke le Beke cruised to a 3-0 victory over Free Agents on day two, in front of a packed crowd of supporters who appreciated the side’s attacking flair. The side from Vaal scored two goals in the first half, as Eddie Sikalane and Itumeleng Motaung gave them a comfortable lead going into the break. Free Agents tried to reduce the deficit in the second half, but Beke le Beke were just too strong as they wrapped it up 10 minutes from time courtesy of a calm finish from Lunga Maseko.


A lot is expected from crowd favourites like Skwarma, Professor, and Wacko Jacko. Some of the players, who currently ply their trade in the GladAfrica Tournament, have been recruited from teams from various townships across the Gauteng province. The winners of the tournament will walk away with R250 000, while there is also a plate prize of R75 000.


Beke le Beke are on six points after two matches in group A and will go into their final round robin match against Mambas without the pressure of having to win. In the first match of the day, Chipolopolo FC and Vaal Monate FC played their first match of the competition in a Group B tie. Chipolopolo FC took the lead five minutes before the half hour mark when Nqobile Buthelezi from the penalty spot but Tebogo Makgalemele headed Vaal Monate back into the match early in the second period. The final game of the day was a tight battle between Chego 17 and crowd pullers AT Mambas in Group A. Both sides were looking for their first victories in the competition, but it ended 1-1. Chego16 opened the scoring in the first quarter of an hour for and his opener was cancelled out by Vusimuzi Zungu from the penalty spot in the second half. Mambas missed a number of great scoring opportunities. The Soweto title-favouritew need to win tomorrow to go through to the semifinals when they meet Beke le Beke.
