On Tuesday, ADO Den Haag will play the first leg in the final of the play-offs for promotion/relegation. In its own Cars Jeans Stadium, ADO will compete against Excelsior or Heracles. Since Excelsior has won 3-0 at home against the Almeloërs, only a miracle can ensure that Heracles is not (yet) relegated to the Kitchen Champion Division.

Heracles Almelo has been relegated from the Eredivisie. A home defeat (1-3) in the semi-finals of the play-offs against Excelsior brought an end to a period of seventeen years at the highest level on Saturday. Heracles follows Willem II and PEC Zwolle, who were directly relegated as number seventeen and eighteen of the Eredivisie, to the Kitchen Champion Division. FC Emmen and FC Volendam are taking the opposite route. Excelsior, which had already won the home match against Heracles 3-0 on Wednesday, can become the third PhD candidate. The Rotterdammers qualify for the final of the play-offs and meet ADO Den Haag. Excelsior first plays at home on Tuesday, the return in The Hague is next Sunday.

ADO Den Haag heeft mede dankzij een wonderschone kopbal van Thomas Verheydt een eerste stap gezet richting de finale van de play-offs om promotie naar de eredivisie. FC Eindhoven werd in Den Haag verslagen. Door een weggegeven penalty wel met 2-1 in plaats van 2-0. Daardoor belooft de return in Eindhoven bloedstollend spannend te worden

After a dramatic final day of the season, Heracles found themselves in the 16th spot, and the relegation playoffs awaited. The club then decided to sack Frank Wormuth and assistant René Kolmschot took charge of Wednesday’s clash. Excelsior were the better team from the start and after 20 minutes, Marouan Azarkan fired them in front. The winger sustained an injury from the challenge and had to be replaced. Fifteen minutes before the end, Thijs Dallinga doubled the lead with a nice move and finish. The striker also sustained an injury and had to leave the pitch just minutes after scoring. Heracles had no answer and Excelsior would make it 3-0 before the end with Couhaib Droouech scoring what could be the killer goal. Heracles now need a huge win in the second leg on Saturday or they will be heading for the second division. Excelsior could be heading for a playoff final against either ADO Den Haag or FC Eindhoven.
