A l'aube de cette 3ème journée de MLS, le début de saison est diamétralement opposé entre Seattle Sounders, lanterne rouge du championnat, et Los Angeles Galaxy co-leader avec Austin FC. Le dernier de la classe a début cette nouvelle saison par 2 défaites lors des deux premières journées contre Nashville SC (0-1) à domicile et sur le terrain de Real Salt Lake (1-0) le week-end dernier. La formation de Schmetzer a, en revanche, super bien maitrisé son 1/4 de finale aller de la Ligue des Champions CONCACAF en dominant facilement le club mexicain de Leon (3-0) à domicile. Il aura fallu un doublé de Montero et une réalisation de Morris en toute fin de match pour voir le 2ème succès sur les 15 dernières rencontres de Seattle Sounders. Los Angeles Galaxy, qui n'a perdu qu'1 seule fois contre Vancouver Whitecaps (2-4) en amical lors de ses 10 dernières sorties, a lancé sa saison par 2 premières victoires contre New York City (1-0) et à Charlotte (1-0) quelques jours après avoir obtenu un nul contre DC United (2-2) lors de sa dernière rencontre de préparation. Le club Chicharito (ex MU) tentera de réaliser la passe de trois face à cet adversaire malgré les 2 nuls enregistrés lors de leurs deux derniers duels (1-1 et 1-1) en championnat et en amical.

The Sounders, who have an eight-game unbeaten streak against L.A. (5-0-3) and have lost just once in the past 15 meetings against their Western Conference rivals (8-1-6), scored on a corner kick, penalty kick and free kick.Arreaga’s winner came on Alex Roldan’s free kick from about 30 yards out on the right wing. He found an unmarked Arreaga just outside the middle of the 6-yard box, and Arreaga put a header into the upper left corner of the net. The Galaxy opened the scoring in the 6th minute. Raheem Edwards played a ball into the 18-yard box for Rayan Raveloson, who fed Chicharito for a left-footed blast from just outside the top of the 6-yard box that soared over goalkeeper Stefan Frei and just under the crossbar. Morris tied it in the 17th minute on a corner kick by Joao Paulo. Cristian Roldan flicked a header that went off the leg of a Galaxy defender and deflected to a wide-open Morris in front of the net. Morris fell while reaching his leg back to control the ball, but he was able to swing his leg forward while on the ground to roll the ball just past goalie Jonathan Bond and over the goal line. It was Morris’ first MLS goal since 2020 after missing nearly all of last season with a knee injury.

Seattle took a 2-1 lead in first-half stoppage time after Montero was taken down in the far left corner of the penalty area by Julian Araujo. Montero converted the penalty kick, putting his shot into the lower left corner of the net as Bond guessed the other way. The Galaxy tied the score at 2-2 in the 48th minute on a free kick from just outside the top right of the penalty area by Costa. His left-footed kick went off the wall of Seattle defenders and deflected into the far lower corner of the net, leaving Frei no chance.
