Ajax Women won the top match against PSV in the Pure Energie Eredivisie Women on Monday. The team of coach Danny Schenkel showed resilience in Eindhoven and won 1-2. Shortly after the break, Ajax fell behind due to a goal from Amalie Thestrup. Gradually, the team from Amsterdam fought back and that led to goals from Sherida Spitse and Romée Leuchter in the 70th and 73rd minute. Thanks to the win, Ajax takes the lead again from FC Twente.
The competitor from Enschede held the first place for a while after beating sc Heerenveen 0-2 on Sunday. PSV can put the title aspirations aside for the time being. The team of trainer Rick de Rooij would have been fully back in the race with a win, but now concedes eight points to Ajax and seven to FC Twente. Ajax is working on an excellent series in the competition. The two-time national champion has won ten of the last eleven games. Only FC Twente lost in that series. Ajax had a hard time with PSV and did not play great, but did win.
