The Diski Challenge is a platform for aspiring academy and reserve team players to develop their skills by playing regularly in a competitive league. The initiative continues to be the pipeline for unearthing South Africa’s football talent whilst acting as training ground for the country’s next generation of broadcasters through the on-the-job experience provided to broadcast interns.Since its inception in 2014, the Diski Challenge has catapulted over 250 academy stars to the professional ranks of the DStv Premiership, GladAfrica Championship as well as to leagues abroad. Internationally acclaimed star, Percy Tau being amongst the selected few South African football professionals to have made it into the English Premier League (EPL) and more recently signing with the most successful team in Africa, Al Ahly. As Africa’s leading sports development investor and broadcaster, MultiChoice prides itself in enriching lives and initiatives such as the DStv Diski Challenge allows the organisation to continue providing South Africans with the opportunity to tell their stories most authentically and bettering their lives. 

in July the reserve league had become an U/21 league, a decision which SAFA, the football motherbody, slated as it rendered the Diski Challenge an amateur league. All amateur football should be under SAFA’s jurisdiction. However, ahead of the new 2020/21 campaign, the Siya crew has seen a letter to member clubs by the Premier Soccer League’s acting CEO, Mato Madlala, confirming the most recent amendments, which took effect over the weekend. The resolution is clear, though, that there is still an age limitation because the “over-aged” players must not be over 23.
