On 29 September 1988, Real Madrid lifted the trophy at the Camp Nou after claiming a 3-2 aggregate win in the final.

Real Madrid captured the club's first Spanish Super Cup crown. In that edition, our team, who contested the trophy as defending LaLiga champions, met Copa del Rey holders, Barcelona.

The first leg took place on 21 September at the Santiago Bernabéu, where Madrid sealed victory thanks to strikes from Míchel and Hugo Sánchez to claim the driving seat in the tie (2-0). Eight days later, the madridistas slipped to a 2-1 reverse but did enough over the two legs to secure the trophy.
