Le CF Montréal a remporté la Coupe des Voyageurs grâce à une victoire de 1-0 contre le Toronto FC en finale du Championnat canadien, dimanche après-midi, au stade Saputo.

À son premier départ dans l'uniforme du CF Montréal depuis le 2 octobre, Romell Quioto a réussi le seul but de la rencontre à la 72e minute. Ce but est venu couronner une prestation spectaculaire du Hondurien, qui a tenté six tirs vers le gardien Quentin Westberg, dont quatre cadrés. Le quatrième a finalement trouvé le fond du filet, un but que Quioto a célébré en regardant vers la foule, en étendant les bras en signe de croix, en souriant et en plaçant son doigt sur le logo circulaire du CF Montréal sur son chandail.

Après le coup de sifflet final, les joueurs montréalais se sont fait l'étreinte et ont sauté de joie au centre du terrain, sous les yeux de partisans debout depuis quelques minutes déjà, face à l'anticipation du moment. Pour moi, les gars ont bien fait. Oui, ç'a pris du temps pour marquer ce but-là, mais je n'ai pas senti mes joueurs en danger. Ils étaient en contrôle de la situation, a analysé l'entraîneur Wilfried Nancy. Le but est arrivé, après c'est normal que l'opposition mette un peu plus de pression, mais j'ai senti mes joueurs forts. Après, oui, il y a eu le poteau. Pour une fois, on a provoqué un peu cette chance-là du bon côté. Content. Positif. Une journée positive.

Pour l'organisation montréalaise, il s'agit d'une 11e conquête de la Coupe des Voyageurs, qu'elle avait aussi gagnée contre le TFC en 2019. Avec cette victoire, le CF Montréal participera au tournoi de la Ligue des champions de la CONCACAF en 2022.

Pour l'entraîneur-chef du Toronto FC, Javier Perez, le match de dimanche reflète un peu tout ce qui s'est passé au sein de l'équipe en 2021. Or, un triomphe aurait sans doute mis un peu de baume sur cette saison difficile. Nous sommes déçus parce que nous voulions gagner ce championnat. Je pense que c'était très important pour nous. Nous avons perdu notre concentration lors d'un jeu et nous en avons payé le prix du championnat, a-t-il dit.

In the final match of the Preliminary Round, Pacific FC defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 4:3 at Starlight Stadium in Langford, BC on 27 August.

The Canadian Championship is the highest domestic club competition and leads to a direct entry into the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League with an opportunity to play in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup. The current champions are CF Montréal who won the 2019 Canadian Championship.
