It was Liverpool‘s bitter rivals who they again faced in 1990, three months after securing their 18th league title. United had won the FA Cup and were an emerging force under Ferguson, as a period of dominance lay ahead for them. Bizarrely, the trophy was shared at Wembley, as the pair of adversaries played out a 1-1 draw, with Clayton Blackmore and John Barnes (penalty) exchanging goals. Extra-time and penalties were not introduced in the Charity Shield until 1992, so that was that! The 1990/91 campaign was a pivotal one at Liverpool, as Sir Kenny Dalglish dramatically resigned in February of that season. An era of greatness had ended at Anfield.
