Rovers went into the Second Division fixture having made a strong start to the season. Palace in contrast had struggled, but it was 1-1 at half time as Howard Gayle netted for Rovers and Geoff Thomas scored for the visitors. The second half produced an incredible seven goals. Ian Wright, Mark Bright and Gary O’Reilly were all on target for Palace, but it was a second from Gayle, two from Simon Garner and goal from Colin Hendry that were enough to give Rovers victory.
Palace would finish the season well, beating Rovers in the play-offs and eventually securing promotion.
Rovers: Gennoe, Atkins, Millar, Ainscow, Hendry, Mail, Gayle, Reid, Kennedy, Garner, Sellars. Subs not used: Miller, Dawson.
