1880: Formation of Manningham FC, forerunner of Bradford City AFC

1886: Opening of Valley Parade as a Rugby Union venue, home of Manningham FC

1895: Manningham FC founder members of the Northern Union (Rugby League)

1903: Manningham FC convert to football from rugby, secure election to the Football League and recruit players for a new team – ‘Bradford City AFC’

1907: Champions of Division Two



1911: Winners of the FA Cup after a 1-0 replay victory over Newcastle United - first holders of a new trophy designed in Bradford

1914: First Football League derby with rivals Bradford Park Avenue; two Bradford clubs in Division One

1914-18: Three serving and six former City players killed in the Great War including FA Cup heroes Jimmy Speirs and Bob Torrance

1920: FA Cup Quarter-finalists

1922: Relegation from Division One


1927: Relegation from Division Two

1929: Champions of Division Three (North)

1937: Relegation from Division Two

1949: Re-elected to the Football League after finishing bottom of Division Three (North)

1958: Founder members of new Division Three


1961: Relegation to Division Four

1963: Re-elected to Football League after finishing second to bottom of Division Four (91st)

1966: Re-elected to Football League after finishing second to bottom of Division Four (91st)


1969: Promotion to Division Three; final Football League derby with rivals, Bradford Park Avenue

1972: Relegation to Division Four

1976: FA Cup Quarter-finalists

1977: Promotion to Division Three

1978: Relegation to Division Four

1982: Promotion to Division Three

1985: Champions of Division Three; tragic Valley Parade Fire Disaster kills 56 supporters - 54 from Bradford City and two from Lincoln City


1988: Defeated in Division Two play-off semi-final

1990: Relegation to Division Three

1996: Promotion to Division Two, winners of Wembley play-off final

1999: Promotion to the Premier League, a top-tier club for the first time since 1922

2001: Relegation from the Premier League

2004: Relegation to League Division Two (third tier)

2007: Relegation to League Two (fourth tier)

2013: Defeated finalists in Football League Cup (sponsored by Capital One) at Wembley by Swansea City - one of the most historic seasons the club has seen, overcoming Premier League Arsenal, Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic; winners of League Two play-off final at Wembley - beating Northampton Town 3-0



2015: FA Cup Quarter-finalists after defeat of would-be Premier League Champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in Round Four and Premier League Sunderland in Round Five - another history-making season

2017: Defeated in League One play-off final at Wembley

2019: Relegation to League Two (fourth tier)
