Y es que poco a poco Jurgen Klopp se ha convertido en uno de los entrenadores más peculiares del mundo y uno de los mejores del momento. Tras rozar la Champions League con el Borussia Dortmund, el entrenador alemán asumió en un Liverpool necesitado de títulos para hacerlo campeón de la Champions y de la Premier League, que fue la primera conquistada por el conjunto red bajo el nuevo formato. Además de por su capacidad para ganar títulos, Klopp también se caracteriza por revalorizar jóvenes jugadores y sacar el mejor rendimiento de los más veteranos. Livererpool's Champions League victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid was particularly sweet for Jurgen Klopp. The former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund coach had final ly won a cup Anal at the seventh time of asking.  Klopp's réputation as a serial loser is not entirely deserved; his Dortmund side beat Bayern Munich to win the 2012 German Cup. But after that he was a sixième losing finalist; three with Dortmund and three with Liverpool. The defeats induded three European showpieces; the 2013 Champions League Final with Bayern at Wembley, the 2016 Europa League Final against Sevilla in Basle, and the 2018 Champions League Final loss to Real Madrid in Kiev.  Of course, 'serial loser" would be an unfair tag to apply to Klopp; “serial improver" would be a much more accurate description especially after his work at Liverpool culminated in a sixth European Cup triumph last May. 

 

Klopp arrived at Liverpool in October 2015 as one of the world's most- wanted coaches, with his pressing tactics having influenced a new génération of Bundesliga coaches.  Under Klopp, they have won 59 per cent of their games, the highest percentage of any manager who has been in charge for 50 games or more. His recent reward was a new five-year contract until 2024.  Whether he sees out that new deal remains to be seen. In a interview with Kicker he acknowledged that at some stage in the future he will take a year out to recharge his batteries, expiai ning: ‘If I décidé for myself that I can't go on anymore, l'Il take a brealk and in that year l'd hâve to mate a definite decision.  ‘I hâve absolute energy, but I hâve one problem I can't do 'a litde bit I can only do 'ail or nothingf But the chances are very high that my energy levels will go up again [after a year's break], and that I can then do the job the way I want to"  For the time being, everything is rosy on Merseyside. Politically, he presses ail the right butions for Liverpool fans in a proudly socialist City, “l'm on the left, of course he said. ‘More left than middle. I believe in the welfare State, l'm not privately insured. I would never vote for a party because they promised to lower the top tax rate! 

 

A return to Germany seems inévitable at some stage, with Bayern Munich and the national team both appealing.
