Nottingham Forest joined illustrious company when they defeated Malmo 1-0 in Munich in 1979 to win the Champions Cup. Only Real Madrid (in the inaugural tournament in 1955-56) and Internazionale (in 1963-64) had ever won Europe's most prestigious club prize at the first attempt. Forest .did it again the following year, defeating Hamburg this time by the same minimal margin, in Madrid. When Clough took over in :he mid-1970s, the club were a famous old club the middle of what was then the second division and apparently going nowhere. They came up into the top divsion in 1977, won the league a year ater then the Champions Cup. Along me way Forest invested some of their new-found riches by turning Trevor Francis, from Birmingham City, into Eng sh foot ball’s first £1 million player. Francis's European début for Forest as a dream  the only goal to win the ’979 Champions Cup Final.
