Tony Pulis' side qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in almost 40 years with a 2-1 victory at home over West Ham last Sunday. The latest win was a continuation of the good home form in the league this year - Stoke have earned 10 points from a possible 12 at the Britannia in 2011. However, their recent away form has been poor, with Pulis' side having only taken one point from their last four league games to drop to 12th in the table.
Pulis will be demanding a maximum effort here to get back on track in the league and secure their top-flight status for a third successive season. But it will be tough against a Newcastle side who have the better league form going into this clash six points from their last six games. While Alan Pardew's side sit in 10th - two points above the Potters - the Magpies need to bounce back after suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Everton last time in a game they had been leading. However, they will take heart from their last two trips on the road - a goalless stalemate at Blackburn followed by the excellent 2-0 victory over Birmingham.
