P.L. 2010 2011 Liverpool Manchester United

Anfield Road, Liverpool
Sunday 6 March 2011

Referee: P. Dowd
Attendance: 44753

On 9th of January, the two clubs met in the third of the FA Cup at Old Trafford with United emerging victorious courtesy of a second minute Ryan Giggs penalty after Dimitar Berbatov had been fouled. Any hopes of a Liverpool fightback were effectively extinguished on the half hour mark as captain Steven Gerrard was sent off for a foul on Michael Carrick as the Red Devils ruined Kenny Dalglish's return as Reds boss. A win for Liverpool will make it three in a row at Anfield against United, having beaten their bitter rivals 2-0 last season and 2-1 in 2008.

Back to back Premier League defeats for United will be unthinkable for Ferguson at this stage of the season and they will not want to be going to The Emirates in May followed by Chelsea at home without some points in hand. A defeat for United could see the pack suddenly back with them and that 19th title that looked a formality just a month ago suddenly in the balance.

United will look to Wes Brown to patch-up Sir Alex Ferguson's defence crisis, with Chris Smalling set to partner Brown following the loss of Nemanja Vidic to a crazy sending-off during the week. Rio Ferdinand remains out of action, as does Jonny Evans. Michael Owen and Patrice Evra are rated doubtful, while Oliveira Anderson, Antonio Valencia, Ji-Sung Park and Owen Hargreaves are all sidelined.
Squad: Van Der Sar, Kuszczak, Lindegaard, O'Shea, Rafael, Smalling, Brown, Evra, Fabio, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Scholes, Gibson, Giggs, Obertan, Bébé, Berbatov, Hernandez, Rooney.
