Real Betis Balompie Historia 1907 2007
The name is derived from Baetis, the Roman name for the Guadalquivir river. Betis initially attracted support from the working classes although a large number of aristocrats, including the King of Spain also supported the team. Real was added in 1914 after the club received patronage from King Alfonso XIII. Some fans argue the Betis is the true Real as it was the first to receive royal patronage...

The Blaugrana may have been dominant in the
league this term, but even one poor performance can spell disaster in
the cup, though even these are something of a rarity when it comes to
the Camp Nou side. Athletic Bilbao proved extremely stubborn opponents
for Barca in the previous round, and the Catalans were ultimately forced
to rely on an away goal from defender Eric Abidal to push them through
by the narrowest of margins.

On a remarkable night at White Hart Lane, Perryman rescued Tottenham's UEFA Cup challenge after Romeo Benetti had given Milan the lead. The hard-tackling Italians barely gave Spurs an inch, but Perryman pulled a goal back with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box. And he repeated the feat in the second half, unleashing a right-footed volley past Milan's keeper Fabio Cudicini, father of Tottenham keeper Carlo Cudicini, to give the Londoners a slim advantage.

Stamford Bridge London
Chelsea is back and will, once again, be a power in English football. It seems that everybody has learnt lessons from the past year. Ken Bates, the players and the supporters rejoice in promotion and also pray that they do not suffer the indignity of relegation again. Quite a few things have happened on the Chelsea scene. First there is the news about the granting of planning permission for the Stamford Bridge development. But just as important has been the clubs playing record since then, because without the team being in the First Division any redevelopment might be hampered by lack of investment from supporters as well as other sources. Chelsea is in line for a new record on away goals scored, which stands on 41, most wins in a season stands at 25, most points in a season stands at 88, most goals in a season stands at 98, and hopefully they will win the Second Division Championship as they have never won any senior trophy twice, and finally is that Dave Beasant only has to play at West Bromwich Albion to have played at every ground in the Football League.

Arsenal The Double Year 1970 1971
Back in the days when the double was a rarity, this video charts every
detail of this piece of football history. A must for any Gooner.Having finished 12th in the First Division in 1969-70, a full 24 points behind champions Everton (and this was in the days of two points for a win, remember), there was little to suggest Arsenal would come on so strong in the following campaign. But that's exactly what happened, as Gunners fans enjoyed a season they would never forget. Bertie Mee's boys enjoyed the most memorable of seasons as they clinched the League Championship and the FA Cup - the first time the Gunners had evercompleted English football's precious Double.
Tottenham Hotspur Official History 1882 - 2001
In
the early nineteenth century Tottenham, now an integral part of London,
was a 'semi-rural area on the borders of London and Essex providing a
pleasant country retreat for substantial citizens'. On the Roman road to
Lincoln, there was nothing particularly attractive about the area, the
River Lea, the marshes, a few farms, the houses of reasonably well-off
families and plenty of open spaces. But that was all to change with the
spread of the railways. In the 1840s, the opening of Northumberland Park
station on the Northern and Eastern Railway's line from Stratford to
Cambridge saw the first residential developments. Large, typically
Victorian houses, the type now converted into three or four flats, were
built for those fortunate families who could afford to escape from
central London. But the real expansion came in the latter half of the
century. Tottenham's population increased from 9,120 in 1851 to 46,456
in 1881 principally due to the advent of 'workmen's trains'. As part of
the compensation to be paid for acquiring the land that allowed the
Great Eastern Railway to expand into Liverpool Street, the railway
company was obliged to provide a cheap travel service. Thousands of
London's workers moved out to Tottenham, safe in the knowledge that a 2d
(Ip) return ticket would quickly get them to work and home again. The
working classes flowed out over the Stoke Newington border into
Tottenham and the large, comfortable houses that used to line the High
Road were soon submerged.

Octobre 1981

26e journee
26 January 1986, River Plate faced reigning Argentine and South American champions Argentinos Juniors at the Estadio Monumental. In a spectacular game. The first half belonged to the hosts as River Plate established a 3-0 lead at half time with goals from Luis Amuchástegui, a great goal from Enzo Francescoli and another from Luis Enrique.
In the second half Argentinos then pulled it back to 3-2 with a penalty from Mario Videla and a fantastic diving header from Carlos Ereros. River Plate regained their two goal advantage when they were awarded a hotly contested fourth goal which did seem to cross the line despite the heroic effort of Argentinos goalkeeper Enrique Vidallé. River were then denied a 5th goal on the counter attack by a lung busting run from current Argentina manager Sergio Batista. Argentinos made it 4-3 after River Plate goalkeeper Sergio Goycochea fumbled Videla's header into the net. Amuchástegui came within inches of registering his hat-trick but his lob bounced agonisingly over the crossbar before Fracescoli scored his second and River's 5th of the game. There was still time for Videla to claim his hat-trick with a second penalty but River Plate held on to claim a famous 5-4 victory.
