P.L. 2010 2011 Manchester City Fulham on MiamiGunners Match Of The Week

week 28
27th february 2011:

manchester city v. fulham

Manchester City will aim to close the gap on their title rivals when they host Fulham at Eastlands on Sunday. Roberto Mancini's men are currently third in the Premier League but eight points adrift of leaders and local adversaries Manchester United.
Cottagers boss Mark Hughes will be fully focused on another upset as he returns to his former employers, where he was sacked in December 2009 and succeeded by Mancini. The reverse fixture at Craven Cottage back in November saw City go home with a 4-1 victory under their belts, a result they will be hoping to emulate.

Europa League 2010 2011 Stuttgart Benfica on MiamiGunners Match Of The Week

uefa europa league 2010/11round of 32 second leg
24th february 2011:
stuttgart v. benfica

VfB must approach the fixture with some much needed confidence and belief, but remain aware of the danger this strong Benfica side can present to them if they are to stand any hope of over-turning the 2-1 deficit that they carry into the game. Stuttgart can take some solace in the fact that their weekend game is against fellow bottom-half side Eintracht Frankfurt, but will need to use their strength in depth to stand any hope of winning both games.
Facing a struggling Stuttgart side presents them a great opportunity to pick up their first win in Germany. It is not often that a side competing in Europe will hit such emphatically poor form, and O Glorioso must look to exploit the weaknesses in Labbadia's side.

uefa europa league 2010/11round of 32 second leg
24th february 2011:
dynamo kyiv v. besiktas

A
commanding 4-1 advantage from the first leg in Turkey puts them firmly in the driving seat in the tie, but the freezing temperatures in Kiev this week have made training difficult for Yuri Semin's players, who have not gone through their usual workout on the pitch.
"I don't think there are any problems with the stadium but because of the cold air it was difficult for the players and training has had to be shortened," Semin said.
"I think the pitch at the stadium is in very good condition. The groundstaff have done well, covering it and protecting it through the blizzards. It is quite green and in good condition."

Fa Cup 2010 2011 West Ham Burnley

fifth round proper
21st february 2011:
west ham united v. burnley

Thomas Hitzlsperger is set to finally make his debut for the Hammers after joining on a free transfer from Lazio in June of last year. The midfielder has been out since the summer with a thigh injury he sustained in Germany’s international friendly against Denmark, mere days before the start of the Premier League season.
Burnley are enjoying their football at the moment, having won four out of their last five games, and Howe is confident that his squad will be a match for the Hammers – who are currently helping to prop up the Premier League in 19th place.

Roy Hodgson has been dealt a major blow in his first game as Albion boss after defensive midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu ruled himself out of Sunday's game on social network site Twitter in midweek. Defender Ronald Zubar is a fresh injury doubt for Mick McCarthy's men after the right-back picked up a swollen ankle in last weekend's 2-0 loss to Arsenal. If Zubar does not recover in time, then Kevin Foley would be his obvious replacement.

First Division
play-off 2000

As the 1999/2000 Division One season came to a close, long-suffering Ipswich fans prepared themselves for their team's fourth consecutive appearance in the play-offs. Further heartbreak seemed on the cards as their semi-final opponents Bolton raced into a 2-0 lead in the first leg, but the tie was level by the final whistle. High drama followed in the return match with Ipswich snatching a last-minute equaliser to take the tie into extra-time - which they duly won. The Wembley final saw Ipswich's nerves jangling yet again with Barnsley taking an early lead, but class ultimately told as the Suffolk side ran out 4-2 winners. All the action from the three games is captured here.

Sporting on the other hand, are having another very poor season with very little left to play for – except holding on to third place which would actually be an improvement on last season’s fourth-placed finish – as they find themselves 23 points behind league leaders FC Porto and 12 points behind second-placed Benfica.

European Cup Winners' Cup 1988 1989 Barcelona Cska Sofia

Semi Final
First Leg
Camp Nou,
Barcelona

Soviet Top League "Высшая лига" 1989 Spartak Moscow Dynamo Kiev

The 500 miles derby

Spartak Moscow and Dinamo Kiev derby is a major football international rivalry between former Soviet giants, Spartak Moscow and Dinamo Kiev that has developed in the Soviet Top League.
A classic Moscow-Kiev match up that was often gathered the biggest crowd of all the Soviet Top League games especially after the last league reorganization in 1970. The game in its popularity overcame the big Moscow derby Dynamo-Spartak that was the main event of the league for the longest since its establishment in 1936. The both clubs were the most successful in Soviet Top League, with Dynamo having won 13 titles to Spartak's 12. Spartak, however, has better head-to-head record and as of 1 August 2008 they won 59 games with 39 lost out of total 119 games played. The contest emerged as a derby in 1976, when Dinamo beat Spartak, thus relegating them from the top flight...

week 18 (rescheduled)
15th february 2011:

Birmingham will look to use their game in hand against the teams below them to pull away from the relegation zone and edge closer to safety. Alex McLeish's men are currently in 14th position with 30 points but could climb above Newcastle into the top half of the table with a win on Tuesday night.
Newcastle travel to St Andrew's for this rearrange fixture hoping they can end their recent goal drought away from St James' Park. The Magpies have failed to score in their last two away games, drawing 0-0 at Blackburn and losing 1-0 at Fulham either side of the incredible 4-4 draw with Arsenal at home.

Grandi partite della Serie A : As Roma Inter Milan Campionato 1982 1983

Day 12
12 Decembre 1982
Olympico, Roma
Referee : Bergamo (Livorno)

Primera Division 2010 2011 Atlético Madrid Valencia on MiamiGunners Match Of The Week

week 23
12th february 2011:

atlético madrid v. valencia

Since the turn of the year, it almost feels like Atletico Madrid have lurched from disaster to disaster. In five Primera Division matches they’ve earned only four points, and for the first time all season they’ve slipped to three successive defeats. If the capital side are to avoid making it an unwelcome four, they must improve against Valencia on Saturday evening.
Unai Emery may not necessarily be a favourite of the Mestalla crowd, but few will be complaining of the results the young coach has attained over the last couple of months with Valencia. From the last seven league matches of the east coast club, a highly impressive six have been won, meaning that they’ve moved firmly into the top four, six points clear of Athletic Bilbao in fifth.

12th february 2011:

The return of star striker Roque Santa Cruz has given manager Steve Kean a much needed boost after the Paraguayan missed last weekend's 4-3 loss to Wigan Athletic. The Manchester City loanee could be joined by new signings Ruben Rochina and Mauro Fornica in the matchday squad. Midfielders Keith Andrews and Steven Nzonzi are pushing for starting spots after completing comebacks from long-term injuries.
The Magpies' striker crisis has been eased after Leon Best's hamstring strain in the 4-4 draw with Arsenal has not proved to be too serious. The Republic of Ireland international has been joined by shock signing Shefki Kuqi who is available after his free transfer move. The Finland international will help plug the gap left by Shola Ameobi after he broke a cheekbone. Midfielders Dan Gosling and Stephen Ireland remain out of contention after knee injuries. Winger Hatem Ben Arfa also joins the pair on the sidelines after a broken leg, but could return before the end of the month.

P.L. 2010 2011 Aston Villa Fulham on MiamiGunners Match Of The Week

week 26
5th february 2011:
aston villa v. fulham

Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat as they welcome in-form Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday. The Midlanders had won their last two before league leaders Manchester United inflicted a 3-1 reverse at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Gerard Houllier's side at least return to home comforts as they bid to register 500 Premier League goals at Villa Park.
Fulham's record of three wins at Villa in 19 attempts makes for poor reading, but Mark Hughes will be confident of improving that statistic in light of their recent resurgence. The Cottagers have amassed 10 points from their last six games, including Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Newcastle United. The victory has allowed Hughes to contemplate notions of a top-half finish and a positive result in the Midlands will go a long way to satisfying the Welshman's hopes.

P.L. 2010 2011 Manchester City West Bromwich on MiamiGunners Match Of The Week

week 26 5th february 2011:

On Wednesday, City were held to a 2-2 draw at Birmingham meaning that they have won just one of their last four Premier League games and taking just five points from a possible 12. That will concern Roberto Mancini, whose side led twice before conceding a penalty from which Birmingham’s Craig Gardner earned his team a point. Yaya Toure was absent at St Andrew’s with flu and he will undergo a test ahead of the visit of Albion. They are still without Mario Balotelli, who last played in December when he scored a hat-trick against Aston Villa in December...
Albion, meanwhile, stole a valuable point on Tuesday thanks to a 2-2 draw with fellow relegation rivals Wigan. Carlos Vela, the Mexican forward signed from Arsenal on loan, made his debut and could continue as Albion look for their first win at City since February 2003.

Campionato 2010 2011 Milan Ac Lazio on MiamiGunners Match Of The Week

serie a 2010/11
week 23
1st february 2011:
ac milan v. lazio

Milan lie first in the Serie A standings, and four points clear of nearest rivals Napoli but face a Lazio team tonight with, if not title ambitions, then a strong desire to secure Champions League football for next season.
Allegri said: “Lazio are doing pretty well, have great players and a strong team spirit. We’re at a crucial stage of the season, we can’t afford to lose points now. “Our objective is getting at least 80 points, which in my opinion should be enough to win the championship. So we need 11 more wins.
“We have to take one game at a time. Lazio are very strong technically thanks to players like Hernanes, Mauri, Ledesma, Matuzalem, Brocchi and at the back have a solid defence. “An adjective for the match? It’s a difficult question. It will be a match in which we’ll need to play with great intensity. It will be important to approach the game with the right attitude. They tend to lower the pace and so we’ll have to try to maintain a high intensity.”
Allegri could hand a debut to veteran defender Nicola Legrottaglie who joined yesterday on deadline day from Juventus to cover for the injured Alessandro Nesta.
Allegri added: “We’re at the most difficult and most important stage of the season and we have a lot of injured players.
