One Week in May: The Story of a Unique Treble transports viewers back to an historic campaign. It was a season in which Gerard Houllier’s Reds played 63 games and scored 127 goals. They became the first English side to win three cup competitions in a single campaign, and also secured a much-coveted Champions League qualification spot on the final day.

Fans could hold their heads high as they journeyed Europe in search of silverware, pitching up at some of world football’s most hallowed venues. They could dance with joy in the stands as their team completed league doubles over Everton and Manchester United for the first time in decades. They hurtled through a frantic final few months in support of a side that was built on sheer resilience and togetherness. And then, during one breathless week in mid-May, they watched Liverpool dramatically edge two cup finals, before returning to Europe’s top table for the first time in 16 seasons.

Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Danny Murphy reflect on a precious period of their career, joined by the likes of Dietmar Hamann, Markus Babbel, Sami Hyypia and Sander Westerveld. Assistant boss Phil Thompson speaks with pride at how Houllier and his staff kept their players hungry for more while navigating a formidable, draining fixture list. And Houllier’s contemporary, Sir Alex Ferguson, looks back on the Frenchman’s presence and ideals, as well as the battles he savoured against the Reds. Produced in conjunction with Forever Reds, Liverpool’s official former players association
