 Son douzieme but un douze match contre Leeds, douze minutes avant le coup de sifflet final, en 2012, en portant le numéro douze. C'était amusant pour les numérologues et les collectionneurs de statistiques, sans doute. Ça fera peut-être une note en bas de page dans le grand livre d'or de Thierry Henry à Arsenal, page 227, comme le nombre de buts qu'il a désormais marqués pour les Gunners. Mais ce n'était qu'un détail sans importance, une ligne qui défile au générique quand tous les spectateurs ont quitté la salle. Lundi soir, les chiffres, les stats, tout le monde s'en battait l'œil à PEmirates. Que ce soit Henry, qui les aime bien pourtant, les 59 615 occupants d'un stade qui a chaviré comme jamais, les millions dont les yeux plongeaient dans un écran de télévision, supporters de Tottenham y compris. Il n'y a qu'une seule vérité pour les sportifs, c'est ce qu'on voit d'eux sur le terrain, a dit Emmanuel Petit, qui était là, lui, et qui, après ce match, trimballait le maillot de son ami comme la relique d'un saint. La tunique sera mise aux enchères pour une association caritative au mois de juin, laquelle ne devrait pas s'en trouver plus mal pour cela.

 Newcastle have fared dismally against Manchester United in recent times and will want to address that issue on Tuesday night. The Magpies head into a midweek meeting with the table-topping Red Devils in the knowledge that they have won none and lost 13 of the last 16 top-flight fixtures between the two clubs. With their last success coming way back in September 2001, the North East outfit will feel that they are due a reversal in fortune. Unfortunately for the Magpies, they have been unable to contain United both at home and on the road. They have taken just one point from the last 21 available from games with the Red Devils at St James' Park. Worryingly for Alan Pardew, he has also seen his side keep just two clean sheets in their last 15 games in front of their own supporters this season.

Le voyage des Red Devils à St Andrews s'annonce délicat face à l'une des équipes les plus en forme de Premier League. Birmingham City totalise 12 matchs consécutifs sans défaites, dont les matchs nuls face à Chelsea, Liverpool et Manchester City. Le bilan des hommes d'Alex McLeish est encore plus impressionnant à la maison puisqu'ils n'ont pas perdu à St Andrews depuis le mois de septembre. Alex McLeish pourrait reconduire le même onze de départ qui a fait match nul à Nottingham Forest pour le troisième tour de la FA Cup, ce qui représenterait le neuvième match d'affilé avec les mêmes titulaires. L'optimisme règne bien évidemment chez les Blues, mais si l'on regarde d'un peu plus près les livres d'Histoire, nous pouvons nous apercevoir que la dernière série de 11 matchs d'invincibilité, qui remonte à 1908, s'est soldée par une relégation, alors que United remportait le titre. Serait-ce un bon présage ?

Chelsea finally got that elusive win on Wednesday night at home to Bolton and the sighs of relief in west London were positively palpable. The Blues just might have turned a corner and can begin hauling back the ground that has opened up between them and the top three of Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City. At Arsenal on Monday the Blues looked like they couldn't decide if they wanted to win the league or not, but there was a more determined streak about them two days later against Bolton and if success is measured in confidence, Chelsea really need to believe they can still nab the title...
