Liga 2011 2012 Barcelona Villareal

29 August 2011
Camp Nou,
Barcelona

Attendance 75.097

The 1983-84 season also saw Coventry thrashing Liverpool 4-0 at Highfield Road, at a time when Liverpool were arguably the best team in the world and constituting the Reds' single worst defeat in over a decade.  Joe Pagan took over the controls in Liverpool from Paisley. Although born in the city, Pagan's footballing talents had gone unnoticed by the club and he had wound up down the other end of the East Lanes Road at Manchester City following war service in the navy. A right half, he played at Maine Road between 1946 and 1950 making 148 appearances in the First and Second Divisions and scoring a couple of goals. He even skippered City before a broken leg led to a free transfer to the now defunct Bradford Park Avenue in August 1953. He also enjoyed non-league spells with Nelson, Hyde United and Altrincham before joining Rochdale as team trainer under Harry Catterick. In 1958 he moved to Anfield as assistant trainer and was promoted second-in-command to Paisley when Shankly retired.

Division One 1988 1989 Southampton Milwall

After a slow start Sheringham and Cascarino formed a lethal partnership that won Millwall the Division Two Championship and brought Millwall First Division football for the first time in their history. After a dip in form, Teddy had become, for a short while, the target of the Millwall Boo Boys, his name being booed when the team line up was announced but he turned it around to pip Cascarino for top scorer with 24 to 23 goals. Teddy was then called up into The England B squad and won a cap alongside teammate Alan McLeary v Switzerland in Lausanne in May 1988.  In his Autobiography, Teddy talks how his game started develop. "I probably started to become the player I am today at quite a young age. For Instance, in our successful days at Millwall, the guys used to play long balls to me or Tony Cascarino - We both had the ability to win the ball in the air. The bigger of the centre halves used to pick up Cas and the smaller one used to pick me up. It was a pretty direct route, but even then, I used to like to come off my marker by 10 or 15 yards, link thinks up and go on from there. It was natural for me to do that; certainly no manager ever told me to play that way. They didn't tell not to either, which is just as well seeing how my career and my role in various teams developed."

The discontent beetween Peter Taylor and Brian Clough had taken its toll and Peter had had enough. Nottingham Forest tried to persuade him to stay, but Peter was adamant and sadly the private dislike between  the  old   partners   now  became public   knowledge, especially when he became manager at the Baseball Ground. In the meantime, Clough seemed happy with his new partnerless role and actually righted many wrongs in the transfer market by bringing in experienced talent such as Colin Todd from Birmingham City and full back Kenny Swain from Aston Villa. Both I had major European experience should the I new look Forest need it. In the new season, that began to look like Peter Taylor, a vital factor in the club's a renewed possibility. For despite a stuttering phenomenal success, left the club after start, a  fantastically productive run from falling oat with Brian Clough. October to Christmas shot the club from a humble 13th slot to second place behind Liverpool, once again runaway leaders. But this was to be a roller coaster season, as an awful run from January to early spring saw Forest dtop once more to tenth. Then just as the post mortem was about to dismiss the team as a 'load of losers' they bounced, back again with a nine-match unbeaten run which contained seven victories.
