The Washington Spirit found themselves in another penalty shootout in the NWSL playoffs and goaltender Aubrey Kingsbury saved them again. Kingsbury stopped two penalty-kick attempts and watched another hit the crossbar as the Spirit survived a scare in their NWSL quarterfinal round win over No. 7 seed Racing Louisville FC on Saturday. The Spirit were a few minutes away from a potential 1-0 shutout before an equalizer goal from Louisville midfielder Kayla Fischer in stoppage time at the end of regulation. Washington won the penalty kick shootout, 3-1, after the teams played two scoreless 15-minute extra time periods. The Spirit lost in the NWSL championship game last year. Washington star Trinity Rodman, the U.S. women's national team mainstay, was available as a reserve for the match but did not play for the Spirit after being listed as questionable due to a sprained MCL she suffered last month.
