In a dramatic conclusion to the AFC U-17 Asian Cup, nine-man Uzbekistan have seen off hosts Saudi Arabia to claim a second continental title. Remarkably, both goals came after the Young White Wolves had forward Nurbek Sarsenbaev and defender Miraziz Abdukarimov sent off late in the first half. Dominant throughout the tournament, Islombek Ismoilov’s side remained undeterred as they continued to push forward at the King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Taif. Defender Mukhammad Khakimov put the visitors ahead from the spot six minutes into the second half before a superb solo effort from the outstanding winger Sadriddin Khasanov in the 70th minute sealed an extraordinary victory. Uzbekistan have reached at least the quarter-finals at seven of the past eight continental tournaments and impressed in progressing to the same stage at the previous global finals at Indonesia 2023. Alongside hosts Qatar, Uzbekistan are part of an nine-strong AFC line-up heading to the FIFA U-17 World Cup™ later this year that will also feature Indonesia, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and United Arab Emirates.
