Shanghai Shenhua carved out a 2-0 victory over 10-man Kawasaki Frontale at Shanghai Stadium on Wednesday as the Chinese Super League leaders picked up their second win in the league phase of the 2024-25 AFC Champions League Elite. Wang Haijian struck in the 24th minute against a Kawasaki side that had been playing with one player less from the fifth minute following Marcinho’s sending off as Leonid Slutsky’s side moved up to fourth in the eastern standings.

An injury time penalty from Andre Luis after he had been fouled in the area by Yuichi Maruyama put some late gloss on the win for the home side. Shenhua are three points adrift of leaders Gwangju FC while Kawasaki sit on three points from the first three matches and outside the top eight positions that advance to the next round of the competition in March.
