Orlando Pirates dropped points against ten-man Richards Bay after their 0-0 draw in their DStv Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening. Pirates came into the game against wounded after their shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sekukhune United in mid-week while the Premiership newcomers were sitting in second place just two points off league leaders Sundowns. It was always going to be a major challenge against the well organised and defensively sound Kwa-Zulu Natal-based outfit who didn’t offer much going forward but rarely looked like conceding due to the Buccaneers not showing enough composure in the final third, something that has plagued them for the better part of the new campaign.
And while they showed some intricate passing moves in the opening half, Salim Jamal Magoola who had six clean sheets in nine games prior to the fixture – as one of the standout new faces in the top-flight. The task became all the harder when Siyanda Msani received a straight red for his challenge on Olisa Ndah which clearly buoyed the home supporters during the interval. But the expected onslaught in the second half didn’t arrive. Pirates had all of the possession but from their five shots on target, Magoola looked comfortable throughout. And it was a case of two points dropped and their title aspirations taking another blow as they are four points off table-topping Sundowns, who have played a game less. Meanwhile the Natal Richboyz moved a point off the 2021/22 domestic treble champions as their dream start to life in the league continued.
