Parma were founded on July 27, 1913 originally under the name of Verdi Foot Bail Club. Five months later the composer disappeared from view as the club committee voted to change titles to Parma Football Club. In the 1950s Parma appeared to establish themselves in the second division but were relegated in 1965 and slipped right on down into the fourth division. Finally, in 1986, they gained promotion back to Serie B and, four years later, were in Sérié A for the first time in their history. In that first Sérié A season they beat Juventus in the Italian cup final, made their way to Europe in the Cup-winners Cup and triumphed thanks to a 3-1 victory over Belgian club Antwerp at Wembley. Against Arsenal a year later, Parma narrowly failed to become the first club to retain the Cup-winners Cup but their European consolation, a year later, was to beat fellow Italians Juventus for the first of two UEFA Cup triumphs in four years.  A lot of problems in the new century unfortunatly...
