First and Second Leg
uefa champions league 2010/11round of 16 March 2011
Just a couple weeks ago, Roma were likely the heavy favorites for their Champions League match with Shakhtar Donetsk. After all, despite the fact that Shakhtar took their group, this is the first time the Ukrainian side has made it into the Round of 16. Deep into their winter break, the club hasn't played a competitive match in 70 days. Roma, meanwhile, were flying high in Serie A, believing themselves to have secured a Champions League spot for next year as well. But on the eve of Wednesday's match, Roma haven't won in their last three matches, with two successive defeats seeing them slide down to eighth place.

Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu is confident his team will edge past Roma and create more Champions League history. The Pitmen reached the knockout stages of the competition for the first time this season and claimed a shock 3-2 win in Rome in the first leg. A place in the quarter-finals is just 90 minutes away for the Ukrainian side and Lucescu has an inner confidence this can be achieved. "It's very important for us to win," he said. "Our opponents naturally want revenge, but Shakhtar have enough experience to get a proper result.
Roma, though, will face a difficult task. Donetsk have won their last 18 matches in all competitions and have not lost at the Donbass Arena since moving there in 2009. The last time they lost at home was in October 2008 which illustrates their dominance in front of their fans. However, Roma have been imbued by the appointment of former striker Vincenzo Montella. It will be his first game as a coach in Europe's premier competition after being promoted from the Roma Under 15 coach's job to take the reins after Claudio Ranieri was dismissed.
Thanks for this!
