Stadio San Siro Milan
5 Avril 1992
During this season, under the guidance of Fabio Capello, AC Milan completed a remarkable unbeaten season, a run that eventually totalled 58 games.A.C. Milan returned to its glorious days it had under Arrigo Sacchi. Marco van Basten had his last season uninterrupted by injury, and netted 25 goals, which was one of the main reasons Milan was able to overhaul Juventus. Milan ran through the season unbeaten, a rare feat in footballing history. Its run totalled 56 matches compressing the next season too.
U.C. Sampdoria was nowhere near defending its inaugural Serie A title from 1990-91, but was extremely close to an ever bigger honour, only losing out on overtime to Barcelona in the European Cup final. The end result was 1-0 to the Spaniards, thanks to Ronald Koeman's free kick. In the league competition, Sampdoria finished tied for sixth with Parma, albeit the results were not officially defined, since European places were not at stake. Due to Sampdoria's failure to secure European football, championship-winning coach Vujadin Boškov left his job.
